Feeling Blue? Look for the Green!
Mental Health Benefits of Being Outside:

Spending time in nature has a real impact on our mental health and wellbeing. Research shows that even 20 minutes outdoors can lower stress levels and improve mood. Being surrounded by green space can reduce anxiety, boost focus and support a stronger sense of calm.

For students and young professionals, nature can be an important reset. Stepping away from screens, schedules and noise allows our minds to rest and recharge. Studies from the University of Michigan and Stanford University have shown that time in nature can improve attention, memory and overall life satisfaction. It is one of the simplest and most accessible forms of self care.

Through my time studying and working in both Tel Aviv and Vancouver, I have come to rely on nature as part of my routine. In Tel Aviv, I often spend time in the Yarkon Park, especially around the Rosh Tzippor Forest, where the trees and open space offer a quiet break from the city. In Vancouver, Pacific Spirit Park played the same role for me. Both places remind me that slowing down and getting outside is not a luxury. It is an important part of staying grounded.

Connecting with the outdoors also strengthens our relationship with our community and the places we live in. It gives us perspective and reminds us of the larger world we are part of. Nature can be a powerful tool for creativity, mental clarity and emotional resilience.

Making time outside is a small practice with a meaningful impact. It supports our mental health, helps us stay balanced and encourages us to show up as our best selves.
