These days we are witnessing a historical change in the Middle East. Sovereign states are being disintegrated, millions are fleeing and by doing so changing also the nature of the European continent.

The mayhem began with the rising of a new force, organised and savage unlike any other – The Islamic State.

The ‘Islamic State’ (ISIS) has been orchestrating massacres in Iraq and Syria, executes whoever they consider different from the radical Islam they preach, crucifies Christians, burying civilians while they’re still alive, kidnapping and selling women and threatening to form an islamic Caliphate that will rule the Middle East and way beyond.

These days, the Islamic State is battling for its survival, following the joint international effort to defeat the organization, but its jihadist ideology remains. In the meantime, on the wrecks of the Islamic State, an unprecedented Shia crescent makes Iran the dominant force in Syria, Iraq and South Lebanon.

Itai Anghel, who was just awarded the ‘Sokolov Prize’ – the highest award for journalism in Israel – has been three times inside Syria and six times in Iraq. He is the only Israeli journalist who has been covering the region from the fall of Saddam Hussein to the present days breakup of Syria and Iraq.

In this lecture he presents rare encounters with ISIS fighters, dynamic and updated maps of the region and exclusive pieces of his documentaries from Iraq and Syria over the years that helps to understand the process that led to the rise and the fall of the ‘Islamic State’ and the Jihadists in the region. By understanding the process that led to the rise of ISIS we will also be able to to understand the day after ISIS and the possible re-emergence of the organization’s ideas.
