Prof. Arie Vardi to receive Israel Prize in Music

Prof. emeritus of TAU’s Buchmann-Mehta School of Music will receive the prestigious award this spring

The Israeli Minister of Education has announced that Prof. Arie Vardi will receive the Israel Prize in Music for his enormous, lifelong contribution to the field.

Prof. Vardi has previously served as head of the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music and chair of the piano track at Tel Aviv University. Over the course of his career he has also held Master Classes and presented lecture recitals at the Juilliard School of Music, the Paris Conservatoire, the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, the London Royal Academy, and many other major music centers.

The prize committee praised Prof. Vardi’s contribution towards the advancement of classical music in Israel and his role as a distinguished pedagogue.  Many of his students are today world acclaimed pianists. In addition to his decisive role in the advancement of classical music in Israel, the committee further noted his impact on the development of Israeli music and Israeli musicians abroad through extensive activity, not only as a pianist, but also as a renowned international teacher and jury member of the foremost international piano competitions. Prof. Vardi also serves as the Chairman of the Jury of the International Arthur Rubinstein competition. 

In Israel, Arie Vardi has made a name for himself with the general public through lecture-concerts and recitals, as well as his acclaimed television program “Intermezzo with Arik”.
