Honourable Herbert Marx receives recognition at Tel Aviv University for his decade’s long support
It is our honour to thank Herb and Eva Marx for their dedication to both Canadian Friends of Tel Aviv University and to Tel Aviv University!
On their recent trip to Israel, celebrating their grandson’s Bar Mitzvah, The Honourable Herbert Marx and his wife, Eva, together with other family members attended a plaque unveiling ceremony, honouring Herb and Eva’s decades-long dedication and support to CFTAU, Tel Aviv University and the Law Clinics.
The event took place on August 21, 2017 at TAU’s Buchmann Faculty of Law. In attendance of this special event, along with the Marx family, were President Prof. Joseph Klafter, Dean Prof. Sharon Hannes, Law Clinics Professor Hicham Shabaita.
The Honourable Herbert Marx was the Founder of the first Legal Aid Clinic in Quebec. He is a Canadian lawyer, law professor, judge, Minister of Justice, and past President and longstanding member of the CFTAU Executive Committee. He was also a member of the National Assembly of Quebec from 1979 – 1989, and a cabinet member, and a Justice of the Quebec Superior.
With the financial help and experience of individuals like Herbert Marx, The Clinics’ toolkit is now comprised of a wide variety of strategies enabling us to provide legal representation and litigation before all courts; to promote or challenge existing policy and legislation by drafting position papers and bills; to appear before public committees; and engage in community work. Through public interest oriented legal education and community involvement, the clinics are effectively transforming legal education and the legal system to be more attentive to the needs and interests of the poor.
