What goes well with blue and white? A red maple leaf, of course!
Facilitated by CFTAU, Tel Aviv University hosted the Mayors of Montreal and Toronto and members of a high-level trade mission to Israel on November 14, 2016, as part of the two Mayors’ first-ever joint Business Mission.
The visit aimed to expand the warm ties and common goals between TAU and Canada, and specifically with the cities of Montreal and Toronto.
The Honourable Denis Coderre and His Worship John Tory met with TAU’s President Joseph Klafter and other University leaders and key donors.
“Both Canada and Israel offer a pluralistic society, outstanding research and development, and vibrant innovation and entrepreneurship,” Prof. Klafter said in his welcome message.
Later, the delegation heard presentations on Entrepreneurship, Smart Mobility and Cultural Studies at the University as well as from Montreal medical student, Madison Goldberger, studying in the NY State/American Program of the Sackler Faculty of Medicine. Consul General of Israel to Quebec and Atlantic Provinces, Ziv Nevo Kulman, himself a TAU grad and son of former TAU faculty members, as well addressed the delegation, which was also accompanied by members of Montreal’s CIJA team, including Vice-President Quebec, Eta Yudin, and Executive Board Members Rabbi Rouben Poupko and Patrick Benaroche.
Professor Klafter also signed memoranda of understanding with Concordia University President Alan Shepard and Université de Montréal‘s Chief of Staff of the Rector’s Office, Jean Renaud.
The visit to TAU was concluded with a nice dessert reception in the Senate Building Atrium, given the Canadian delegates the opportunity to meet and mingle with TAU faculty and staff, Canadian exchange students and meet local TAU supporters.
