2017 Board of Governors Meeting

Now that Tel Aviv University has entered its 7th decade, we are more ready than ever to pursue the unknown. Since we celebrated together last May at the 60th Anniversary Board of Governors meeting, the University has been growing in leaps and bounds in every dimension. 

You, our governors, have supported us like never before.  You have generously put your passions into action by providing funding for a wide range of projects that will help bring and keep us at the forefront of research in brain sciences, sports medicine, regenerative medicine, social sciences, nanotechnology, communications, anthropology, innovation and much more.

What an incredible and captivating evening! Close to 100 people attended an event from CFTAU Ottawa, Quebec and Atlantic Canada at the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue, in Montreal.

French author and journalist Ariane Bois presented her fourth novel, “Le Gardien de nos frères”, and discussed the French resistance during WWII.

Prof. Francois Heilbronn, President of les amis français de l’Université de Tel-Aviv,  Governor and Vice-Chair of TAU’s Board, and Vice President of Mémorial de la Shoah addressed the current struggle of French Jews, presenting the serious challenges France faces today from extreme Islam, the far right and the far left with regards to antisemitism, anti-zionism and fascism.

  • An evening of Beef, Bourbon and Balfour with proceeds benefitting Canadian Friends of Tel Aviv University’s Scholarship Program.
  • We prepared delicious kosher steaks and for whom the spirit moved them did partake in a bourbon (and scotch) tasting.
  • Guests had also have the opportunity to see the world’s largest private collection of memorabilia of Theodor Herzl, the visionary of the State of Israel. This was a great kick off for our new year.

Cyber Week 2017 @ Tel Aviv University

Cyber Week is an annual cybersecurity conference held at Tel Aviv University in Israel, with Cyber Week 2017 running from June 25th to June 29th, 2017.

It offers a unique gathering of cybersecurity experts which brings together industry leaders, startups, investors, academics, diplomats, and other government officials. Deliving a thought-provoking exchange of knowledge, methods, and ideas, it is a leading international conference in cybersecurity.

Events will run for an entire week and include roundtables, panels, workshops, forums, BSides, competitions, and more. We’re expecting a large number of participants to attend, having hosted over 5,000 attendees from more than 50 countries last year.

The conference is hosted by the Blavatnik Interdisciplinary Cyber Research Center (ICRC), The Yuval Ne’eman Workshop for Science, Technology and Security, Tel Aviv University, the Israeli National Cyber Directorate under the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Moshe Zviran ia a Professor of Information Technology at the Coller School of Management School and serves as the Dean of the School. He is the incumbent of the Isaac Gilinsky Chair of Entrepreneurship, Technology, Innovation and Management and also serves as the academic director of the Eli Hurvitz Institute for Strategic Management and. He received his B.Sc. degree in mathematics and computer science and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in information systems from Tel Aviv University, Israel, in 1979, 1982 and 1988. He held academic positions at the Naval Postgraduate School, California, the Claremont Graduate University, California, and Ben-Gurion University, Israel. His research interests include entrepreneurship and innovation, information and cyber security and information systems planning and policy. Prof. Zviran has published numerous articles in leading academic journals and authored two books in information systems. He is also a consultant for leading organizations in Israel and serves as a board member in several companies and organizations.

The Steve Tisch School of Film & Television

 The Film and Television School offers many opportunities for developing proficiency in film and television production and for studying cinema history, cultural theories, and film criticism. Major areas of specialization include:

  1. Production – basic methods and concepts of film practice and a wide range of creative experiments in the fields of movie-making and television.
  2. Aesthetic history of cinema, film criticism, and theories of textual analysis.
  3. The inter-relations between the visual media, society, politics, and cultural systems.
  4. The art of script writing and practical application of the script in film and television productions.
  5. Knowledge, orientation, and hands-on practice in Digital Media and in their incorporation into film and television production.

Highlights from the ALL ACCESS & BOG 2017 of TAU in Israel

A group of young professionals from Israel and abroad, each representing different fields of expertise, took part in the All Access TAU Mission.

The fast-paced, diverse, and multidisciplinary program gave participants a sampling of the university’s vast offerings.  The itinerary included a tour to the Israel Aerospace Industries and IDE Technologies. We met some successful and notable TAU alumni and heard from some of TAU cutting-edge research with a series of Ted-Talk style presentations.
